The Israel medical device scene is a unique phenomenon. A tiny country in an unstable region of the world has managed to produce a dynamic group of hundreds of companies whose effects are felt around the world. Most of the big players in the medical device field have acquired several Israeli companies and  Israeli innovations have changed the way that certain fields of medicine are practiced. This blog tries to explain the success of the Israeli medical device sector and to profile Israeli medical device companies.

This blog is written by Dr. Charles Hurwitz, owner/operator of Carmel Scientific, an Israel-based company that provides  services including regulatory consulting, medical writing and technical writing to the worldwide medical device community. Dr. Hurwitz holds an MSc from the Univ of Massachusetts, Amherst USA and a PhD in Biology from the Technion Israel Institute of Technology. He has been active in the Israeli medical device field for the past 20 years and has witnessed it grow from the 2-3 companies in the beginning of the 1990s to today’s several hundred companies.
